However, what makes the ME3 outcry unique is that it had nothing to do with deliberately unbalanced gameplay systems or lazy cash-grab microtransactions, rather, it was backlash against the game's narrative intense discontent with the creative decisions made by a team that had, up until that point, crafted an almost universally-loved universe, extensive lore, and a cast of incredible characters.
